The education

What's actually in Mat-Su well water

Most homes across the Valley are on private wells, and private wells are unregulated — nobody tests your water but you. The problems people describe are consistent: orange staining in toilets and on fixtures from iron, white scale on faucets and glassware from hardness, grit in aerators from sediment, and occasionally a sulfur smell from hydrogen sulfide.

These are four different problems requiring four different pieces of equipment, and installing the wrong one is expensive and ineffective. A softener does nothing for sediment. A sediment filter does nothing for iron in solution. Which is why treatment starts with knowing what your water contains, not with picking a product off a shelf.

What you get

Specific, not generic

Everything below is something a technician actually does on the job.

  • 01

    Treat the actual problem

Iron, hardness, sediment and odor each need different equipment. Diagnosis comes before hardware.

  • 02

    Protects everything downstream

Water heaters, boilers, fixtures and appliances all last longer on treated water.

  • 03

    Whole-home coverage

Treatment at the point of entry so every fixture in the house benefits, not just the kitchen tap.

  • 04

    Sediment filtration

Grit and particulate removed before it reaches aerators, valves and heat exchangers.

  • 05

    Softening for hard water

Scale control that keeps water heaters and boilers from insulating themselves to death.

  • 06

    Installed by the mechanical crew

The people who see what hard water does to heating equipment are the people installing your treatment.

  • 07

    Serviceable systems

Equipment chosen so media, cartridges and salt are manageable rather than a specialist call every time.

  • 08

    Guaranteed workmanship

Installation backed by the same guarantee as our heating and plumbing work.

How it goes

From your call to a system that works

  1. 01

    Describe what you're seeing

Staining, scale, grit, smell or taste — each points to a different contaminant.

  2. 02

    Water assessment

We identify what's present and at what level before recommending equipment.

  3. 03

    System recommendation

The right combination of sediment, iron and hardness treatment for your water, priced clearly.

  4. 04

    Installation

Point-of-entry equipment installed, plumbed with bypass, and commissioned.

  5. 05

    Service schedule

Media, cartridge and salt intervals set for your usage, and shown to you before we leave.

Unregulated water

Nobody is testing your well but you

A city water customer has a utility running continuous testing and treatment. A Valley well owner has none of that. Whatever the aquifer delivers goes straight to your fixtures, your water heater and your boiler loop, and the first indication of a problem is usually staining, scale, or an appliance failing years early. Testing is cheap. Replacing a scaled boiler is not.

  • Iron, hardness, sediment and odor identified individually
  • Treatment specified against your results, not a generic package
  • Heating equipment protected as part of the same job
  • Installed and maintained by your mechanical contractor

Common questions

Answers before you call

Something not covered? Text (907) 308-4233 and our dispatch crew will answer it.

Why is there orange staining in my toilet?

Iron. It's extremely common in Mat-Su well water. Dissolved iron oxidizes on contact with air and deposits as orange-brown staining. A softener alone may not handle it depending on the level and form — iron removal is often its own stage.

Do I need a softener or a filter?

They solve different problems. A softener addresses hardness — the calcium and magnesium that scale your water heater. A filter addresses sediment or iron. Many Valley homes need more than one stage, and knowing which is why the assessment comes first.

Will treatment help my water heater last longer?

Meaningfully, yes. Scale on a tank bottom or a tankless heat exchanger is an insulator — it forces the burner to work harder, raises stack temperature and shortens equipment life. Treating the water is the cheapest way to protect the expensive appliance.

Is my well water tested by anyone?

Private wells aren't monitored by a utility, so testing is on the homeowner. That's why we start with finding out what's actually in your water instead of assuming.

How much maintenance do these systems need?

Cartridge changes, media servicing and salt, on an interval set by your water and usage. We choose equipment you can reasonably maintain and show you how before leaving.

Can you install treatment when you replace my water heater?

Yes, and it's usually the smart time to do it — the new appliance gets protected from day one rather than after the damage starts.
