The education

Plumbing in ground that freezes six feet down

Alaskan plumbing failures cluster in predictable places. Water lines running through unheated crawlspaces, garages and rim joists freeze first — usually the run to a rarely-used fixture where no water moves to carry heat. Service lines from the well or main fail where they cross a frost-susceptible layer or where a shallow bury was never corrected. And older homes carry a generation of galvanized or early plastic piping now well past its service life.

Because Knik Heating does both HVAC and plumbing, a frozen or failed line usually gets diagnosed alongside the reason it happened: a cold zone, a crawlspace with no heat, a duct that never delivered, an uninsulated run. Fixing the pipe without fixing the cause just schedules the next call.

Straight answer

If you'd rather just talk it through, call (907) 357-6111 or text (907) 308-4233. Emergency furnace and plumbing calls are answered around the clock.

What you get

Specific, not generic

Everything below is something a technician actually does on the job.

  • 01

    Leak location and repair

Pipe repairs on supply and distribution lines, with the cause identified rather than just the symptom.

  • 02

    Whole-home repiping

Replacing failing galvanized or aged piping systematically instead of patching leak after leak.

  • 03

    Waterline replacement

Service line replacement from the well or main, with bury depth and freeze exposure addressed.

  • 04

    Frozen line experience

Thawing done carefully, then the cold path traced so it doesn't happen again next January.

  • 05

    HVAC and plumbing together

A frozen crawlspace line is often a heating problem. One company can fix both halves.

  • 06

    Water heater work included

Tank and tankless installation, expansion tanks, shutoffs and safety devices handled in-house.

  • 07

    Guaranteed workmanship

The same guarantee that backs our heating work backs our plumbing work.

  • 08

    24/7 dispatch

An active leak is an emergency. Call or text — that's the fastest path to a technician.

How it goes

From your call to a system that works

  1. 01

    Stop the damage

Dispatch walks you to your shutoff on the call if water is actively running.

  2. 02

    Locate and diagnose

We find the failure and the condition that produced it — freeze exposure, corrosion, or pressure.

  3. 03

    Repair or repipe options

Targeted repair versus systematic replacement, with honest guidance on which your house needs.

  4. 04

    Complete the work

Pipe repaired or replaced, pressure tested, and vulnerable runs insulated or rerouted.

  5. 05

    Prevent the repeat

We address the cold path, the bury depth or the aging material so the call doesn't come again.

Cause, not symptom

Most frozen pipes are a heating problem wearing a plumbing costume

A line freezes because that space got cold enough for long enough. That means a crawlspace with no heat delivery, a rim joist with a gap, a run outside the insulation envelope, or a zone that stopped calling. A plumber who only replaces the burst section will be back. Because we do both trades, we fix the pipe and then close the cold path that killed it.

  • Cold path traced with the heating system in mind
  • Vulnerable runs rerouted inside the envelope where possible
  • Insulation and heat delivery corrected, not just the pipe
  • One company, one accountability, both trades

He checked my heating system out figured out the problem, which was a simple fix. He was very polite and knowledgeable and so was his apprentice. They left there work area clean and tidy. Common questions

Answers before you call

Something not covered? Text (907) 308-4233 and our dispatch crew will answer it.

A pipe froze. What should I do first?

Shut off the water at your main and call. Thawing a line badly is how a freeze becomes a flood — the failure often shows up the moment ice releases and pressure returns. Dispatch will walk you through it on the phone.

Do I need a full repipe or just a repair?

One leak in otherwise sound piping is a repair. Repeated leaks in the same material, visible corrosion at multiple joints, or discolored water point to a system at end of life, where repiping is cheaper than the next five service calls.

Do you handle plumbing and HVAC?

Yes. Knik Heating is a veteran-owned HVAC and plumbing company, which is why a frozen crawlspace line gets diagnosed with the heating deficiency that caused it.

Can you replace the line from my well to the house?

Yes, waterline replacement is part of our plumbing work, including addressing bury depth and the entry point where freezing is most likely.

How fast can you get out for an active leak?

Active leaks are treated as emergencies. Call or text — dispatch checks form messages daily, but the phone is the fastest path.

Is your plumbing work guaranteed?

Yes, the same guarantee that covers our heating and cooling work applies to plumbing.
