The education

The trade-off every Alaskan house makes

Building tight is correct here — it's how a house survives a -30°F night without ruinous heating bills. The consequence is that the air inside stops exchanging with the air outside. Moisture from showers and cooking, combustion byproducts, off-gassing from finishes, pet dander and dust all accumulate in a sealed envelope through a long winter, and the first sign is usually condensation and mold on the coldest window frames.

Then summer arrives with wildfire smoke, and the reflex is to seal up harder. Solving both seasons takes two different things: mechanical ventilation that brings in outside air without throwing away the heat, and real filtration that captures fine particulate instead of just protecting the blower. Duct sealing sits underneath both — leaky ducts in an unconditioned crawlspace pull in exactly what you're trying to filter out.

Straight answer

If you'd rather just talk it through, call (907) 357-6111 or text (907) 308-4233. Emergency furnace and plumbing calls are answered around the clock.

What you get

Specific, not generic

Everything below is something a technician actually does on the job.

  • 01

    Real filtration

Media filtration sized for your air handler's static pressure, so it captures particulate without starving airflow.

  • 02

    Ventilation strategy

Controlled fresh air for a tight envelope, addressing winter moisture and stale air together.

  • 03

    Duct sealing and repair

Leaks in crawlspaces and attics get found and sealed instead of being filtered downstream.

  • 04

    Sheet metal fabrication

Transitions, plenums and runs made to fit the house rather than forced with flex duct and tape.

  • 05

    Humidity control

Window condensation and mold are moisture problems first. We address the source, not the symptom.

  • 06

    Dryer vent safety

Long, lint-packed dryer runs are a fire risk and a moisture source. Cleaning and rerouting available.

  • 07

    Smoke season readiness

Filtration upgrades planned before August, not during the first smoke advisory.

  • 08

    Airflow measured

Static pressure and delivery checked, so a filter upgrade doesn't quietly wreck your furnace's airflow.

How it goes

From your call to a system that works

  1. 01

    Describe the symptom

Window condensation, dust, stuffiness, smoke intrusion, or a room that never gets air.

  2. 02

    System inspection

Filter type and fit, static pressure, duct routing, terminations and ventilation equipment.

  3. 03

    Findings and priorities

We tell you which fix moves the needle most, so budget goes to the right place first.

  4. 04

    Implementation

Filtration, ventilation, duct sealing or fabrication, done in the order that makes sense.

  5. 05

    Verification

Airflow re-measured after changes to confirm the system still breathes properly.

Two seasons, two problems

Winter moisture and summer smoke need different answers

Homeowners often try to solve both with one filter. Winter's problem is moisture and stagnation in a sealed envelope — the answer is controlled ventilation and humidity management. Summer's problem is fine particulate arriving from outside — the answer is filtration and a tight duct system. Doing one and expecting it to fix the other is the most common wasted spend we see in Valley homes.

  • Winter: ventilation, moisture source control, condensation prevention
  • Summer: media filtration, duct sealing, fan circulation
  • Year-round: static pressure kept within the equipment's limits
  • All of it handled by the same crew that services your heat

Common questions

Answers before you call

Something not covered? Text (907) 308-4233 and our dispatch crew will answer it.

Why do my windows sweat all winter?

Indoor moisture meeting a cold surface. In a tight house with no mechanical ventilation, showers, cooking and occupants push humidity up until the coldest glass in the house condenses. Fixing it means removing moisture and introducing controlled fresh air, not turning the heat up.

Will a better filter hurt my furnace?

It can, if it's the wrong one. A dense filter in a slot sized for a cheap one raises static pressure, cuts airflow and stresses the blower. That's why we measure static pressure rather than just selling a higher MERV rating.

What can I do about wildfire smoke?

Proper media filtration in the air handler, sealed ducts so unfiltered air isn't being pulled in, and running the system's fan to keep air moving through the filter. Planning it in spring beats scrambling during an advisory.

Do you clean and repair ductwork?

We handle duct repair, sealing and custom sheet metal fabrication, plus dryer vent cleaning. If the real problem is a sizing or routing issue rather than dirt, we'll say so.

Is dryer vent cleaning really necessary?

In houses with long runs to an exterior wall, yes. Lint accumulation is a genuine fire risk and it also dumps moist air into the run, which in Alaska means frost blocking the termination.

One room never gets any air. Can that be fixed?

Usually. It's typically an undersized run, a crushed flex duct, a closed or buried damper, or a return path problem. All of those are diagnosable and fixable without replacing the system.
