The education

Cooling a house at 61° north

Air conditioning in Alaska isn't about surviving a Phoenix afternoon. It's about a house that collects solar gain for nineteen hours a day in June, holds it in a heavily insulated envelope built to keep heat in, and never gets a proper night to dump it. Bedrooms on the south and west sides climb into the eighties and stay there, and opening windows brings in smoke, pollen and noise.

That's a different design problem, and it usually has a smaller, smarter answer than a Lower 48 whole-house system: a right-sized central AC paired to the existing air handler, or ductless heads placed only where the heat actually collects. Oversizing is the classic mistake — a system too large short cycles, never runs long enough to pull humidity, and costs more to buy and to run.

What you get

Specific, not generic

Everything below is something a technician actually does on the job.

  • 01

    Sized for a real load

We calculate the cooling load for your envelope and glazing instead of defaulting to the biggest unit that fits.

  • 02

    Central or ductless

Central AC on an existing air handler, or ductless mini-split heads in the rooms that actually overheat.

  • 03

    Free consultation and estimate

Complimentary consultations and free estimates on new AC installations and replacements.

  • 04

    Guaranteed repairs

Every AC repair we complete is backed by our guarantee.

  • 05

    Fast in-season response

We aim for same-day or next-day service on cooling issues during the short window it matters.

  • 06

    Air quality included

Cooling season is wildfire smoke season here. Filtration is part of the conversation, not an upsell afterthought.

  • 07

    Winter-ready equipment

Outdoor units are set and protected for a climate that will bury them in snow for six months.

  • 08

    One crew year-round

The company that installs your cooling is the company that keeps your heat running in January.

How it goes

    Load and airflow assessment

Cooling load, duct capacity and electrical service checked before anything is specified.

  3. 03

    Free written estimate

Equipment options and pricing, with the trade-offs explained plainly.

  4. 04

    Installation

Line sets run, condenser set on a proper pad or stand, and controls integrated with your heating.

  5. 05

    Commission and verify

Charge verified, airflow measured, and each room checked for actual temperature drop.

Why oversizing hurts

The biggest unit is almost never the right unit

An oversized air conditioner cools the thermostat's air fast, satisfies, and shuts off — over and over. Short cycles never run long enough to pull moisture out of the air, so the house feels clammy at 70°, the compressor takes a beating from repeated starts, and you paid more for the privilege. In a short, mild cooling season, correct sizing matters more than capacity, which is why the load calculation comes before the quote.

  • Load calculated against your glazing, orientation and insulation
  • Existing duct capacity measured before adding a coil
  • Room-by-room temperature verified at commissioning
  • Options presented with running costs, not just install price

Common questions

Answers before you call

Something not covered? Text (907) 308-4233 and our dispatch crew will answer it.

Do I really need air conditioning in Alaska?

Need is your call, but the reason people install it is real: nineteen hours of June sun on a tight, well-insulated house with no meaningful overnight cooling. South and west bedrooms are the usual complaint, and they're the usual place we start.

Central air or a mini-split?

If you already have good ductwork and an air handler, adding a coil and condenser is usually the cheaper path to whole-house cooling. If only two rooms are a problem, or the house has hydronic heat and no ducts, ductless heads are almost always the better answer.

How fast can you get out for an AC problem?

We strive for same-day or next-day service on cooling issues, since the season here is short and the days it matters are few.

Are AC installation estimates free?

Yes. Consultations and estimates on new air conditioning systems and replacements are complimentary, with no hidden fees.

What happens to the outdoor unit in winter?

It's mounted clear of snow accumulation and drift, and we cover what to do with it seasonally. Equipment rated for this climate handles the cold fine; what it doesn't handle is being buried or hit by a roof avalanche.

Will AC help with wildfire smoke?

Cooling by itself doesn't filter, but running the system with proper filtration does. Smoke season and cooling season overlap here, so we usually discuss filtration and air quality in the same visit.
